What is Affilorama all about?

Affilorama is a free community-based Internet Marketing course created by Mark Ling that was launched in 2005. In the recent months/years, there were a couple of updates so earlier reviews are no longer as relevant. Affilorama is made up of a few modules namely, Affilorama (Free), AffiloBlueprint, AffiloJetpack, AffiloTools, AffiloTheme and Affilorama Premium.

In the recent update, Mark Ling tried to neaten up his modules with the focus on 3 main modules, AffiloBlueprint, AffiloJetpack, and AffiloTools as you can see in his promotion below. I will be covering the modules in the review below.

Affilorama Suite

TL;DR Review

The free Affilorama training is one of the better Internet Marketing courses I have seen online. It provides a great overview for beginners however if you are a total newbie, there is a high chance you will get lost in the sea of information.

There is no step-by-step guide for the free membership and some of the trainings provided is outdated (even for the paid modules). For a beginner, it would be relatively challenging to get a site up and running with the free Affilorama membership alone. The community forum is a great idea but it seems barely alive. Price-wise, I find the entire Affilorama suite way too expensive.

What training does Affilorama provide?

When you sign up for Affilorama, you will receive a 30-page get started manual that is easy to read and gives a good overview of affiliate marketing. There are 10 chapters and they generally cover the following:

  • What affiliate marketing is and how it works.
  • How to choose a profitable niche and keywords.
  • How to set up your site and create content the right way.
  • Simple marketing ideas to get quick traffic to your site and start making money fast.

Putting myself in the shoes of a total beginner, I will be asking myself “What’s next?” after reading. In Affilorama, there is over 100+ videos in the free training (really rich information!) but I find it difficult to navigate my way around. There is a lack of  a structured guide and I do not know what I should be reading first. There is a lot of technical jargon and there are much better ways to build a website. Affilorama recommended the use of Adobe Dreamweaver to create a website which is not the easiest thing to use. Trust me, I used that in my undergrad years.

In the Affilorama suite, there are 2 other training components, 1) AffiloBlueprint and 2) Affilorama Premium.

AffiloBlueprintAffiloBlueprint 3.0 is the most popular product in the entire Affilorama suite. It is a step-by-step “how to” course that will show you how to build money-making websites using the system developed by Mark Ling. There is a 12-part video series that goes step-by-step on how to create an affiliate website, drive traffic to it and monetize it. In addition, there are over 85 video lessons and structured homework tasks to keep you on track. It includes the AffiloTheme WordPress theme and free AffiloTheme hosting for up to 5 websites for a year.

Since the recent update, Mark Ling is no longer strongly promoting Affilorama Premium. Instead, Affilorama Premium is now under the umbrella of AffiloTools. Doing my research on Premium, I kind of understand why. There are only 19 videos in the “Premium Vault”. 7 are on product creation and the other 12 videos seems to be randomly put together and not part of a cohesive course. Please read the next section to find out more about AffiloTools.

Tools that are provided?

The free Affilorama membership does not provide any tools but there are 2 paid modules available, AffiloTools and AffiloJetpack 2.0.

AffiloToolsAffiloTools (otherwise known as Affilorama Premium) is a monthly subscription service that gives you access to their cloud-based software with marketing and SEO tools. Of course, you will also receive the bonus affiliate training (Affilorama Premium). As you can see the screenshot on your right, AffiloTools nicely combines the different tools in one.

Although there are many tools, not all are useful. For example, the backlink analysis and Google Page Rank (PR) are no longer useful. In fact, Google clamped down on the use of backlinks. Even sites that used the “safest” form of backlinks through Private Blog Networks (PBN) were badly affected, where some saw a drop of traffic by 80%-90%. PR is an outdated metric and it does not indicate whether a site is “trusted” in Google.

For a paid tool, it does not provide much value-added data. I would rather use Jaaxy or Long Tail Pro for my research although it is a pretty nifty tool that integrates the different analytics into one. Personally, I am not really comfortable connecting AffiloTools with all my accounts as I need to input my passwords into the website.

AffiloTools has a health check tool but it just tells me the errors and not what I can do about the errors. For Internet Marketing beginners, it is highly technical and near impossible for them to do anything about it.

AffiloTools also provides PLR (Private Label Rights) content for a numerous niches. This is outdated and will get your site slammed with “thin content” penalty by Google.

AffiloJetpack 2.0 was launched in September 2014 and it is the “high-end” item in the Affilorama package. This is basically a niche blog content pack and it contains some good information. When you purchase AffiloJetpack 2.0, you will receive the following.

  • Your choice of 5 niche packages (18 niche choices).
  • Each niche comes with a year-long autoresponder sequence of emails (100+ per niche), with built-in promotions for affiliate products.
  • AffiloTheme for WordPress
  • Unlimited websites using the AffiloJetpack builder. This builder will pre-install WordPress and AffiloTheme, plus set up a Fluttermail email account. This Fluttermail account will have the autoresponder series for the chosen niche automatically added. The affiliate links are also automatically installed, connected to the ClickBank account.
  • 3 eBooks per niche (as free reports)
  • 20 article research PLR packs for each niche
  • Customisable header graphics
  • Website hosting for up to 15 websites for a year (limited hosting)

As good as it sounds, Google no longer favours generic and highly SEO-ed content as mentioned above, and it will be difficult for your site to rank in Google. No rank = no traffic = no earnings. For $997, it is really really expensive!

What support is provided?

There are 2 forms of support for Affilorama.
1) Access to the Affilorama support staff – The support staff is relatively prompt in their replies and are knowledgable on the Affilorama suite.

2) Community forums – The community forums is a good idea but it seems like it did not take off, at least for Affilorama. It is barely alive and there is very little activity as you can see from the screenshots below. The SEO & Link Building forum is the most active of them all!

The Pros & Cons

The Pros

  • Content rich information on Affiliate Marketing
  • Easy to follow lessons
  • Member focused site
  • Free membership has loads of videos and lessons (good for those on a shoestring budget)
  • Use of AffiloTools for free for 1 website
  • Access to one of the largest community forums

The Cons

  • Outdated training that includes backlinks and copying content
  • Confusing modular system
  • Expensive if you add-on the upsells
  • No direct access to Mark Ling

What’s the price?

The Affilorama membership is free for life but there are 3 upsells and 1 one-time offer. When you first sign up for the free Affilorama membership, Mark will offer the following one-time offer, Profitable Niche Pack for $37. It is a watered down version of AffiloJetpack but it provides some good information for starters.

Affilorama OTO

The first and most popular upsell is AffiloBlueprint that costs $197 (one-time payment only). The second is Affilorama Premium/AffiloTools costs $67 per month. In the recent update, Mark offers the option where you can try out AffiloTools for free for your first website. The last upsell AffiloJetpack 2.0 is the most pricy one and it costs $997 (one-time payment only).

The Verdict

Affilorama is definitely a legit affiliate marketing course. It is suitable for beginner to advanced level Internet Marketers. Mark Ling is known to be one of the good guys in the Internet Marketing industry. Most Internet Marketing courses don’t last for more than a year but Affilorama has been growing since 2005. As much as I love the information provided, I can’t help but point out that some of the training is outdated. The modular system is confusing and it is not “all-in-one”.

The upsells are expensive and I do not like the hosting limitations for each website. For a total beginner, the free membership will provide you with the information to build a money-making niche site. However, it can be quite daunting to surf through the site to find out what to do next. To get a step-by-step guide, you need to purchase the AffiloBlueprint. If you decide to join, I would advise you to get the free membership to learn first and consider carefully the modules that you need before purchase. Overall, I will rate Affilorama a score of 8 out of 10 because of it’s information rich free membership.

Is there something better?

I’m glad you asked! Yes, there is an Internet Marketing course that is better than Affilorama. That is my number #1 recommendation, Wealthy Affiliate. Let’s look at the differences.

As you can see from the table above, Wealthy Affiliate beats Affilorama in terms of support and training. Even with the addition of all the upsells, Affilorama still pales in comparison to Wealthy Affiliate. If you are serious about building an Internet Income that is sustainable and profitable, do check out Wealthy Affiliate.

Thanks for reading this long review! I hope the information I have provided is useful. Have you used the Affilorama suite before? If you have, please share your thoughts below so that we can benefit from your experience!

  1. Dave says:

Great review. I tried Affilorama for a month and had some good and bad things to say. Overall I think the program is one of the better ones out there… but there are also better programs for less money. The premium membership really doesn’t have much more training than the free one. The AffiloJetPack is basically a website-in-a-box where you promote Mark Ling’s products. I’m not saying thats bad but its something that they don’t really tell you up front. So you pay almost $1,000 to get that upgrade where you sell his products, thats win-win for him.

    • Jane says:

Hey Dave, thank you for your comments. I always appreciate the comments of those who have tried out the program I have reviewed. I totally agree with you that it is a win-win for him. After trying Affilorama, I can’t help but feel that Wealthy Affiliate is a much better alternative at a lower price. AffiloJetPack provides very limited choices and with Google clamping down on duplicate content, it might not be a good deal after all.

Thanks for your valuable inputs to this conversation!

  2. Jason says:

Wow! This was some really great info. I had heard of Affiliorama but never really knew what it was all about.

I am proud member of the Wealthy Affiliate community and I think you did a fantastic job of comparing the two. I would recommend WA to anyone!

    To our success!

    • Jane says:

Hey Jason, thanks for stopping by! I totally agree with you. WA is a very good place to learn Internet Marketing.

      Cheers to our success indeed!

    • Jane says:

I am glad that the review was useful to you, Lita! It is important to learn from a place that provides updated training and support.

  4. Ryan says:

Jane, what kind of training does wealthy affiliate provide? Thanks Ryan

    • Jane says:

Hey Ryan, thanks for the question. Wealthy Affiliate provides a range of training for beginners to advanced Internet marketers. Some of the topics that are covered are:

    • Finding a niche
    • SEO
    • Content writing
    • Pay per click marketing
    • Social Engagement & Marketing
    • and much more.

You can go over to my full review of Wealthy Affiliate to find out more about it.

Oh by the way, you can start with a starter membership that is FREE (no credit card details needed) and have access to 20 lessons worth of training. You can learn more (just with the free membership alone) than most other paid Internet Marketing programs out there in the market.

  • Hey Jane,
I’ve heard of Affilorama before. First of all, Mark Ling is a highly successful Affiliate Marketer. I’m sure that his course is good. By why would someone go for it if better alternatives are resent on the internet.

I second you on the fact that Wealthy Affiliate is a lot better.
